This country is facing a serious situation of solid waste management. In most of these countries, the challenge is focused on effective waste collection and improv- ing waste treatment systems to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG). According to the statistics, the total amount of solid waste in Thailand in the year 2016 is about 27,000,000 tons, wherein, 4,200,000 tons are in Bangkok. Unfortunately, this method is still practiced by many local authorities internationally, as it offers an inexpensive solution to solid waste. Solid waste management and treatment is one of the key issues in Thailand. They release substances such as hexachlorobenzene, dioxins, carbon monoxide, particulate matter, volatile organic compounds, polycyclic aromatic compounds, and ash. Open Burning is a legacy thermal waste treatment that is environmentally harmful. The incinerators used in such process have no pollution control devices.Our goal is to eliminate legacy waste left after the Cold War Era and treat, store. Gasification is more advantageous as it allows the burning process to recover energy without causing air pollution. Decision makers for waste management are confronted with the problem of selecting the most economic, environmental, and socially acceptable waste treatment. The SRNS Solid Waste Management (SWM) department at SRS supports the site’s national security, nonproliferation and environmental cleanup activities by managing newly generated and backlogged and legacy wastes that exist at various facilities throughout SRS. Hazardous waste cannot be landfilled until it is certain that the waste is physically and chemically stable. Pyrolysis uses absolutely no oxygen while gasification allows a very low amount of oxygen in the process. PPLI offers a stabilization treatment for solid waste delivered in non-stable form. Gasification and Pyrolysis are two similar methods, both of which decompose organic waste materials by exposing waste to low amounts of oxygen and very high temperature.The wastes are used for landfill in which a natural or man-made pit or hollow is filled with the waste, covered with soil and often landscaped.
It quickly reduces waste volume, lessens transportation costs and decreases harmful greenhouse gas emissions. This approach is used to treat solid wastes, like garbage, and the solids remaining after waste treatment. SRS’s waste is categorized as transuranic, low-level, hazardous, mixed, high-level or sanitary waste. This thermal treatment method is commonly used as a means of recovering energy for electricity or heating. Poor management of the collection and disposal of solid waste may lead to leachate pollution of surface water or groundwater. Each day SWM faces the challenge of reducing the volume of waste generated sitewide and safely treating, storing and disposing of waste in the most environmentally-efficient and cost-effective manner possible. This approach involves the combustion of waste material in the presence of oxygen.
